Legendary Pictures entertainment tends to work alongside other production companies to deliver content internationally. It had worked in partnership with Warner Bros. Entertainment, since 2005, for a co-production and distribution of a range of movies including ‘Inception’, ‘Dark Knight’, ‘The Hangover’, and ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. Legendary Pictures' first full-length feature with Warner Bros. was the comic book movie, ‘Batman Begins’, soon followed by another comic book adaptation, ‘Superman Returns'.
While it does produce original work, the company, in its recent hits, has focused on adaptations and has upcoming films based on video games and remakes of previous films. Pokemon Detective Pikachu is one of them. The remakes of the Godzilla movie series is also one of its famous works. These diverse genres of movies have appealed to both younger and adult audiences, targeting mostly the fandoms of popular franchises.
Legendary’s most famous and successful work has been its MonsterVerse productions, which is a series of giant monster films featuring Godzilla and King Kong. Legendary acquired the rights to produce an American Godzilla film adapted from Toho's Godzilla series. Legendary released Godzilla in 2014 and the film's success led to the greenlighting of a sequel, ‘Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which was released in 2019, as well as a crossover film with ‘King Kong’ set to release in 2021. Other famous productions include several Kaiju, including the MUTOs, the ‘Skullcrawlers’, ‘Behemoth’, ‘Scylla’ and ‘Methuselah’.
All in all, Legendary has built a library of marquee media properties and has established itself as an innovative brand that consistently delivers commercial entertainment content including some of the world’s most popular intellectual property appealing to mainstream audiences of diverse age groups.
